Sergeant John Kinley is tasked with surveying the area alongside Ahmed, a native interpreter, during his final tour of service in Afghanistan. Kinley and Ahmed are the only ones who survive the ambush on their patrol. Ahmed puts his own life in danger to help an injured Kinley get to safety over miles of difficult terrain as enemy troops are pursuing. Once back on American soil, Kinley finds out that the promised passage to America for Ahmed and his family was not granted. Kinley goes back to the combat zone to get Ahmed and his family before the local militias do, determined to defend his friend and pay back his debt.
